Embark on a thrilling day trip to Lake Ziway from Addis Ababa. Discover the diverse bird species, spot hippos, and immerse yourself in the unique Zai culture.

Lake Ziway – Lake Ziway is one of the freshwater Rift Valley Lakes in Ethiopia. In this Lake, The church of Maryam Tsion which Once Housed The Ark of The Covenant to Hide it from invaders. The island is full of different species of Bird life, Hippos and Rich in Fishery production.

Day 01 :
Day Trip to Lake Ziway

On arrival, we will meet you at the airport or Hotel and drive to Ziway, located about 160 km south of Addis Ababa. Ziway is one of the chain of beautiful lakes found in the Great Rift Valley.

Upon arrival, you will take a scenic boat trip on Lake Ziway to the island of Tulu Gudo. The island is home to the historic Church of Maryam Tsion, which, according to tradition, once housed the Ark of the Covenant in the 10th century to protect it from invaders. Although the Ark has long since been moved, the island still preserves numerous ancient monasteries, manuscripts, and relics of great historical and spiritual significance.

After exploring the island and learning about its rich heritage, we return to the mainland while enjoying the lake’s abundant birdlife, including white pelicans, marabous, egrets, herons, and cormorants, as well as the chance to spot hippos resting in the water.

In the late afternoon, we drive back to Addis Ababa, concluding the day’s memorable excursion.
