The Oromo-speaking town of Bishoftu is located fifty kilometers outside of Addis Ababa. Many residents of Addis Abeba take weekend trips to this area because of its many crater lakes. Day trips to the lakes or short hikes (the round of Lake Hora takes about half an hour) are both possible. Many flock here specifically to see the birds. The lake and spa are home to several eateries perfect for a midday meal.Debre Zeyt is home to five crater lakes, two of which may be seen upon arrival. You can go on short walks, observe birds, or snap pictures here. If you're looking for a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, you can stop by a local coffee shop on your way to or from the crater lakes.
